Installation Mass of Archbishop Stephen Hero

This week marks an exciting and historic moment for our Church as we prepare for the installation of our new Archbishop for the Archdiocese of Edmonton. East Central Catholic joyfully joins the wider Catholic community in celebrating the appointment of Stephen Hero as Archbishop of Edmonton.

Archbishop-Designate Hero was born in 1969 and spent much of his life in Edmonton. In his letter to the faithful, he expresses gratitude to the priests and parish communities of the Archdiocese for nurturing his faith and supporting his call to the priesthood.

Ordained for the Archdiocese of Edmonton, Archbishop-Designate Hero has served the Church in many meaningful ways, including teaching at Newman Theological College and serving as rector of St. Joseph Seminary. In 2021, he was appointed Bishop of Prince Albert by the late Pope Francis. Now, four years later, he returns home to begin a new chapter of pastoral leadership and service among the people who helped shape his vocation.

Archbishop-Designate Hero has shared his hope to walk closely with the faithful, noting that while he knows the people and history of the Archdiocese, he looks forward to returning, listening and discerning together how the Holy Spirit is calling us to move forward.

The Solemn Mass of Installation will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. While this is an invitation-only event due to limited seating, all are warmly invited to take part by joining the livestream of the Installation Mass and celebrating this significant milestone in the life of our local Church.
